Xbox One Used Games & Internet Connection Polices Change

After plenty of uproar and lots of complaints online, the Microsoft Company has done a complete backtracking on two major policies it had announced regarding the Xbox One. Now the Xbox One used games restriction has officially been lifted, and the “always online” connection to the internet is no longer required to play games.

Microsoft Xbox One consoleDuring this year’s E3 conference when the Xbox One console was first unveiled, there was plenty of commotion over those two points, in addition to the fact the Xbox One is $100 more than Sony’s PS4.  Some argue that Xbox One includes a Kinect as part of the package, but for those not into motion gaming, that may not have been much of a selling point.  However, it was the restrictions on use of used games on the system, as well as the idea that this console might have to be always connected to the internet.  Well, that’s no longer the case.

Here are the two major policy updates that Microsoft posted on their Xbox Wire news site as of June 19:

“An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.”

This sounds like good news for those who were originally wanting the Xbox One, but may have backed off from the pre-order due to those two issues. It had seemed Sony PlayStation 4 won the battle of the two next gen consoles at E3, and Microsoft has clearly decided it was in their best interest to listen to gamers’ feedback, making these major changes.
