New iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus Announced

Apple fans and those looking for an iPhone upgrade will be thrilled to hear that the new larger iPhone 6 models were announced today by the company and are now more than just rumors and speculations. Apple confirmed on 9 September that the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus will be available for pre orders from September 12, 2014. The phones will be sized at 4.7 and 5.50 – inches respectively. In addition, Apple will be unveiling their iOS 8 upgrade next week and a new service called Apple Pay has been revealed, which will be exclusive to the iPhone 6 models, for now.

Upgraded Camera & Software

Apple updated the iPhone 6 line with upgraded software and camera hardware with both featuring an 8-megapixel camera and f/2.2 aperture. An improvement over the previous Apple devices as far as cameras are concerned is the additional sensor and super-fast auto-focus. Optical image stabilization using gyroscope and MS processor cancels out shaking hands and movements with additional video stabilization and slow-motion mode for videos shooting at 240 frames per second. However the optical image stabilization is available only on the iPhone 6 Plus.

iPhone 6 Specs

Other iPhone 6 specs include new A8 processors with M8 chip for improved performance as well as the brand-new sensor, a barometer. Although Apple has not confirmed memory upgrading yet they did confirm that 128 GB of storage options will be available for both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, however they did not reveal how it will affect the pricing of the phones.

iPhone 6 Features

Updated iPhone 6 features include new curves around the phones edges and they use a different design element from the usual sapphire screen. It will both be slim phones at 0.27-inches in thickness with availability in three colors, silver, space grey and gold. Other design changes include the placement of the lock/power button from top left to right side. Its weight is only 4.55 ounces and also integrates like the iPhone 5S a Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

iPhone 6 Battery

As expected Apple did not reveal the battery details for the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, but according to rumors and speculation it is expected that the iPhone 6 will last over ten hours over LTE and 3G and over eleven hours on video and Wi-Fi.

iPhone 6 Release Date and Pricing

Presently Apple has released only their US pricing for their latest expected releases with the iPhone 6 release date set for 19 September 2014 throughout eight countries. Starting at $199 for the 16 GB version, 64 GB selling at $299 and if superior storage is what you seek you can get the 128 GB for $399. The first carriers which will sell the iPhone 6’s in the United States are Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. Of note, the phone must be purchased with a service plan on most of the listed carriers with the exception of T-Mobile which currently offers a contract free phone for $650 through Apple.

Other Major Apple News

In addition to the new iPhone 6 models, Apple will continue to offer the iPhone 5S and 5C models of phones. The new iOS 8 mobile operating system is expected to be available for current iPhone and iPad owners to download as of September 18, 2014, so stay tuned for that.
